Dispute (FCRA)
A formal challenge to a credit report entry under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Disputes can be filed for inaccurate data, outdated entries, mixed files, identity theft, or other reportable issues. Bureaus must investigate within 30 days.
Why it matters
Most people have at least one item on their credit report that is incorrect, outdated, or unfair. The FCRA dispute mechanism is the legal remedy. Done well, dispute can remove items that are dragging the score down. Done badly, frivolous disputes can be ignored by the bureaus and the time is wasted.
The discipline is in the documentation: a real dispute names the entry, states the basis (inaccuracy, identity theft, debt validation), provides evidence, and follows up within the 30-day window. AI helps with the drafting and the consistency.
How Ajeris handles this
Ajeris's dispute tools identify likely-disputable entries on a credit report (by pattern: late payments after good history, unauthorized inquiries, mixed-file evidence), draft FCRA-compliant dispute letters, track the response window, and escalate to consumer protection if needed. Submission to the bureaus happens through an integration that is being wired in; the drafting and tracking surface works today.
