Cross-channel customer record
A cross-channel customer record is a single unified record per customer that spans every channel they use: phone, SMS, WhatsApp, web chat, email. The agent reads and writes the same record regardless of channel.
Why it matters
Service businesses with multiple inbound channels typically have one or more of these problems:
- Phone CRM is separate from SMS history.
- The web-chat widget conversations live in their own log.
- Customer info from the booking page does not match what the receptionist captured.
- Email threads are in Gmail; SMS is in the phone; the bookings are in the calendar.
The customer experience suffers. A regular calls and the receptionist does not know they have been a customer for two years. They text the next day with a follow-up question and the agent treats them like a stranger. They book online and the system does not match them to their existing record.
A cross-channel customer record solves this. Every interaction (call, text, email, web chat, booking) writes to the same per-customer record. When the customer reaches out on any channel, the agent looks up by phone number or email and pulls the full history.
The hard parts:
- Identity matching. Customer texts from a number; calls from a different number; submits a form with a slightly different email. Matching them to one record is real work.
- Privacy. The unified record makes the customer feel known when treated well, and feel surveilled when treated poorly. Operational discipline matters.
- Channel-specific data. Each channel has different metadata (call duration, SMS opt-in status, email subject thread). The model has to handle them all.
How Ajeris handles this
Ajeris's business agent maintains one unified customer record per phone number / email pair. Every channel writes to the same record. When a returning customer reaches out on any surface, the agent pulls their full history (last booking, preferences, prior conversations) and treats them as the known customer they are.
The matching uses both phone number and email, with smart handling for slightly-mismatched cases (typo'd email, secondary phone). The owner sees a unified customer view in the manage page.
