Alexa skill agent
An Alexa skill agent is the AI agent reachable through Amazon Alexa. The user invokes a custom skill by voice (e.g., 'Alexa, ask Ajeris about my morning'); the skill routes the voice request to the same agent that handles the user's other channels.
Why it matters
Smart speakers in 2026 still have hundreds of millions of installed devices. For users who already have an Echo in their kitchen, Alexa is the lowest-friction voice surface for short utility tasks: "what's on my calendar," "set a reminder," "play that song from yesterday."
The trade-off vs phone-line voice agents: Alexa is good for short, structured tasks (under 8 seconds total interaction). Long conversations, complex reasoning, anything that needs the agent to think for more than a moment, hits Alexa's session-deadline limits and feels unpleasant. Phone-line voice has no comparable limit; the call goes as long as it goes.
For an Ajeris user, the Alexa skill is a complement to the messaging-first agent: ambient short-utility voice in the kitchen, deeper conversation in the messages app. Same agent, same memory, two surfaces.
The infrastructure constraints of Alexa skills:
- 8-second response deadline. The skill must respond within 8 seconds or Alexa cuts the session.
- Account linking. The user has to link their Alexa account to their Ajeris account once; thereafter the connection persists.
- Wake-word + invocation pattern. "Alexa, ask Ajeris..." is the canonical pattern.
How Ajeris handles this
Ajeris's Alexa skill bridges to the same agent that handles every other channel. Users link their Alexa account through the standard Amazon flow once; thereafter "Alexa, ask Ajeris..." invocations route to the user's agent with full memory and tool access.
For tasks that fit within Alexa's 8-second deadline, the agent responds in voice through the speaker. For tasks that need more time (the user asks a complex question), the agent acknowledges quickly and follows up via SMS or another channel.
