The honest version
Anthropic builds Claude. Claude is one of the two best frontier models in the category, and Anthropic ships it as a beautiful chat surface across web, desktop, and mobile. The Claude desktop app, with MCP support and Projects, is one of the most thoughtful AI tools shipped in the last two years. We use it. We use Claude Code, too.
Ajeris is not a Claude alternative in the model sense. Claude is the default reasoning model inside Ajeris. The point of this page is that the same Claude can be served in two very different shapes:
- Claude as a chat product. What Anthropic ships. Open the app, type, read the reply. The surface is the chat. Long-context work is the strongest use case.
- Claude as an agent. What Ajeris ships. The model lives inside an agent that has a phone number, listens on six channels, has long-term memory, connects to your real tools, and acts. The surface is your existing messages app.
Both are valid. They cover different jobs. Most of our users end up with both.
Three switch stories
The "I love Claude but I want it to actually do things" person. A power user who lived in Claude Desktop for a year. Set up MCP servers, used Projects, leaned on the long context. Realized that the productivity ceiling was the chat surface itself: every operational task required opening the app, drafting in chat, copying out, switching to Gmail, sending. Added Ajeris on top. Now the email gets sent from the messages app; the Claude Desktop is reserved for long thinking.
The engineer who wanted Claude Code from their phone. Engineer who relied on Claude Code at the laptop. Frustration was the laptop dependency: away from the desk, no agent. Paired Claude Code Connect with Ajeris. The agent now drives the Claude Code session on the laptop from a text thread; commits, runs tests, ships. The laptop is open; the engineer is not at it.
The owner of a small business. A salon owner who tried Claude Desktop to "help with operations." Realized Claude Desktop could not actually answer the phone, book a job, or send an invoice. Switched the operational layer to Ajeris because Ajeris ships those things. Kept Claude.ai for the occasional long thinking session.
What Claude does better
We are not pretending the comparison is one-sided. The places where Claude clearly wins:
- Long-context chat. A 200,000-token window is genuinely useful for big-document work. Ajeris is not the right surface for that.
- The desktop ergonomics. Claude Desktop is one of the cleanest AI desktop apps in the category. Projects, artifacts, the file-upload surface; all excellent.
- Claude Code. The CLI is the best agentic coding tool we have used. Ajeris does not try to replicate it; we connect to it.
- The model itself, at the chat surface. If you primarily want to chat with a frontier model in a clean window, Claude.ai is the right pick.
If those are the things you most want, you will keep Claude no matter what we say. We do.
What Ajeris does better
The places we win are operational:
- Real channels. SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, voice, Alexa, email, all stitched into one conversation. Claude does not have a phone number.
- Real tools. 21 OAuth integrations on the personal side, with the long tail covered by your own MCP servers.
- Persistent identity. The agent is a contact in your messages, not a tab you have to remember to open.
- Per-user durable memory that consolidates nightly. Working, episodic, semantic, core, plus daily reflection.
- A real business agent. If you run a service business, the same agent answers your phone, books your jobs, and sends your invoices.
- Claude Code Connect. The bridge from your phone to a Claude Code session running on your laptop.
How to decide
Pick Claude if your goal is the best chat surface for a frontier model. Pick Ajeris if your goal is the same model inside an agent that lives where your conversations already happen. Most of our users find the two products do not actually compete; they coexist. Claude.ai for the long thinking, Ajeris for the operational day.
