The honest version
ChatGPT is the product that taught the world what a great frontier model feels like. It is the highest-quality long-form chat experience on the market, and the team behind it ships the underlying model upgrades that the rest of the industry catches up to. We use it. We respect it.
It is also the wrong shape for the job most people are trying to do with an AI assistant in 2026, which is "make this go away from my plate." ChatGPT is a chat surface. The user types, the model replies, the user copies and pastes. That works for research, drafting, and brainstorming. It does not work for booking appointments, answering the phone, paying invoices, or remembering what was said two weeks ago across the four channels you actually use.
Ajeris is built for the second job. The chat surface is your real messages app. The model has access to your real inbox, your real calendar, your real bank, your real Spotify, your real customer database. The agent acts. You see the result.
Three switch stories
The "I have to copy-paste everything" person. A founder who lived in ChatGPT for two years. Wrote prompts to summarize email, then copied the summaries into Notion. Wrote prompts to draft replies, then copied the drafts into Gmail. The friction of the round-trip was constant. Switching to Ajeris means the agent reads the inbox, sends the reply, and writes the note. The savings are not in any single task; they are in the round-trip cost being zero.
The owner of a small service business. A salon owner who tried using ChatGPT to "help with operations." Realized ChatGPT could not actually do operations. Switched to Ajeris because the same dollar that goes into a chat product can also be the receptionist who answers the phone, the bookkeeper who sends invoices, and the dispatcher who calls leads in 30 seconds. The job that ChatGPT could not do is the entire job here.
The person who wanted memory. Someone who spent six months training a custom GPT to "be their assistant" only to discover that custom GPTs forget you between sessions and cannot send messages outside the chat window. They moved to Ajeris because per-user durable memory is the floor, not a premium feature. The agent remembers them. The conversation continues from yesterday. That is the bar.
What ChatGPT does better
We are not pretending the comparison is one-sided. The places where ChatGPT clearly wins:
- Long-form chat ergonomics. The web app is genuinely the best long-conversation interface in the category. If you spend 90 minutes in a single research thread, ChatGPT's UI is the right tool.
- Frontier-model freshness. New OpenAI model launches show up in ChatGPT first. Ajeris uses Anthropic's Claude as our default; we route to other providers when it makes sense, but we are not the place to test the latest GPT.
- Code interpreter. The sandboxed Python environment is uniquely useful for ad-hoc data work.
- Image generation. Ajeris does not currently produce images.
If those are the things you most want, you will keep ChatGPT no matter what we say. We use it for the same reasons.
What Ajeris does better
The places we win are operational:
- Real channels. SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, voice, Alexa, email, all stitched into one conversation. ChatGPT cannot answer your phone.
- Real tools. 21 OAuth integrations on the personal side (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Plaid, Spotify, Uber, Hue, Apple Music, Shopify, QuickBooks, Xero, Square, Slack, HubSpot, Notion, GitHub, Google LSA, and growing). Bring your own MCP server for the rest.
- Persistent identity. The agent has a phone number. People text it. It is not a chat session that disappears when you close a tab.
- Per-user memory that actually consolidates. Working, episodic, semantic, core. Nightly consolidation. Skills that record how you like things done.
- A real business agent. If you run a service business, the same agent answers your phone, books your jobs, and sends your invoices.
How to decide
Pick ChatGPT if your goal is a beautifully UX-ed chat assistant for thinking through hard things. Pick Ajeris if your goal is to have those things actually done. Most people we talk to end up with both, and notice over time that ChatGPT becomes the place they go when they want a chat, while Ajeris becomes the place where the day is held.
