This is the comparison that comes up most often from readers who pay attention to model providers. Claude is the family of models Ajeris primarily uses; Anthropic is the company that builds them; Claude.ai and Claude Code are Anthropic's own consumer surfaces. So the natural question is: if Claude is doing the thinking inside Ajeris, why use Ajeris at all instead of the Anthropic-built surface?
The honest answer is that Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Ajeris solve different problems. They all happen to use the same model class. The model is genuinely close to commoditised; what differs is the system around the model, the surfaces it lives on, and the categories of work each is built for.
This post is the working comparison.
The three shapes
Claude.ai is a chat product. You go to claude.ai or open the Claude desktop app, type, and Claude replies. Best-in-class for long-form thinking sessions; the team at Anthropic has shipped the cleanest chat interface in the category. The surface is the chat itself.
Claude Code is a terminal-bound coding agent. It runs in your shell or your IDE. It reads your repo, plans changes, makes edits, runs tests, ships commits. Best-in-class for software work; it is genuinely how a lot of professional engineers work in 2026.
Ajeris is a personal AI agent. It lives in your messages, listens on six channels, has a per-user durable memory, connects to 21 OAuth integrations, runs a voice receptionist for your business if you have one, and pairs with Claude Code so you can drive your laptop from your phone. The surface is your existing inbox.
The three product shapes do not compete; they are designed for different jobs. Most of our heavy users have all three open simultaneously and use each for what it is best at.

When Claude.ai wins
Three categories.
Long-form thinking. A 90-minute session deciding on a strategy, writing a draft, refining a plan. Claude.ai's chat surface is built for it. The text rendering, the cadence, the artifact panel: every detail is tuned for sustained engagement with one document or thread.
Open-ended creative work. Writing fiction, poetry, scripts. The chat-and-iterate loop fits the work. Ajeris is too operational for this kind of iteration; the messages-thread surface is wrong-shaped.
Privacy-sensitive professional work. When the work is sensitive enough that you want it in a single product surface with no integrations to anything else, Claude.ai is the sealed-room option. Ajeris is more connected, by design; sometimes that is wrong.
When Claude Code wins
Two categories.
Real software work in your repo. Reading a codebase, planning a refactor, making the change, running the tests, committing. Claude Code is the right tool. We use it. Most of Ajeris was built with significant Claude Code involvement.
Anything that needs filesystem, shell, or git access. Claude Code lives in those surfaces natively. Ajeris can drive Claude Code remotely (see below) but the primary engineering surface is where Claude Code lives.
When Ajeris wins
Most of the day-to-day operational work.
- Texting an assistant for everyday tasks (book a haircut, dim the lights, what is on today, send the email).
- Voice receptionist for your business.
- Cross-channel customer memory.
- Lead capture, drip nurture, dispatch, invoicing.
- The morning brief you read at 7 a.m. on WhatsApp.
- Memory that survives across sessions and channels.
The shape that Claude.ai cannot fit (it is destination-product) and Claude Code cannot fit (it is terminal-bound) is exactly Ajeris's lane. Voice on the phone, SMS, the messages thread, the personal-life-meets-business-life integration. Different category.
- 1Long-form thinkingClaude.ai. Dedicated chat surface, artifact panel.
- 2Software work in your repoClaude Code. Terminal + IDE native.
- 3Operational tasks across messagesAjeris. Multi-channel agent.
- 4Drive your laptop from your phoneAjeris pairs with Claude Code. The bridge.
The bridge: Claude Code Connect
A unique surface that exists because of the relationship between the three products: Ajeris pairs with Claude Code on your laptop. You text "ssh into my dev box, deploy the homepage update Mark pushed yesterday" from your phone; the agent runs the command on your laptop (paired via a short code) and reports back when done.
This is not Anthropic's product directly; it is Ajeris using Claude Code as a tool the same way an agent uses any other tool. The combination is genuinely novel: a personal agent that can drive your machine remotely, all over text. We have a docs page for the technical setup.
What about pricing?
Claude.ai: paid tiers (Pro, Max, Team) plus a free tier. Reasonable. Claude Code: typically uses your Anthropic API key with usage-based billing. Most users in 2026 hold a Claude Pro/Max plan that includes a Claude Code allotment, plus pay-as-you-go for heavy use. Ajeris: free to start, then usage-based.
Heavy users typically have all three: a Claude.ai Pro plan for the chat surface, Claude Code for engineering work, Ajeris for the operational layer. The combined cost is meaningful but each tool earns its keep on different work.
- You need a long, careful chat with a frontier model.
- You are doing creative work that benefits from iteration.
- You want a sealed product surface, no integrations.
- You want operational work done across messages.
- You need cross-channel customer memory.
- You want voice + SMS + WhatsApp + Alexa stitched.
Should I worry about model lock-in?
Brief honest answer: no. Anthropic's API is well-documented, Claude is interoperable with the OpenAI-compatible patterns most agentic tooling uses, and Ajeris routes to other model providers for some workloads. If Anthropic disappeared tomorrow, Ajeris would route to OpenAI or Google for the affected workloads with a few hours of work. The model is not a deep lock-in.
The deeper lock-in for any agent is the user's data: their memories, their connected tools, their skills. We treat this as a structural commitment. Per the data retention policy, you can export everything Ajeris knows about you as JSON at any time, and deleting your account deletes your data from our database at once.

Try it
If you have a Claude.ai account already, the easiest way to feel the difference is to ask Ajeris for one operational thing (book a haircut, send an email) immediately after a Claude.ai session. The two interactions will feel like different products serving different needs, even though Claude is doing the heavy thinking in both.
